About us

Message from the President

January 8, 2010

I started Kalothia in 2000 after spending more than 15 years working in engineering and business development for large telecommunications companies, such as MCI and Winstar.  For much of my adult life, I had nurtured a deep desire to start my own company and take full responsibility for charting its future and managing its success or failure.  My dream was to create a company in which all employees liked one another and felt at home in their jobs, and where close and friendly relationships would exist with long-term customers.  As the telecommunications “bubble” burst in 2000, the time seemed right to take the plunge and make my dream into a reality.  I began the process by creating a business plan and seeking advice from several “experts,” who each recommended that I abandon my plan because I lacked experience in voice and data cabling.  Despite such sensible advice, my passion to create my own business was too great to be ignored, and with the support of my family, I used a great deal of the family savings to create the new company.  I named the business Kalothia, Greek for cables, since cabling was the initial company service.

Kalothia’s success has been dependent upon the help of industry experts who joined the Kalothia family and brought the expertise that was essential to transform our startup company into a solid supplier of business communication technology.  Robb Miller, Kalothia’s first employee, along with Heather Peterson and Mark Whitehill, who joined in the early stages, continue to provide the leadership that drives the company on a daily basis.

An important part of any company is its culture.  At Kalothia, we are committed to a core set of values that we rely upon to guide us, including the following:

RESPECT

 Respect for ALL Kalothia employees

CUSTOMER SATISFACTION

Our Customers’ Satisfaction is always the highest priority

DRIVE FOR SELF IMPROVEMENT

“We are what we repeatedly do.

Excellence, then is not an act, but a habit.”

Aristotle (384-322 BC Greek Philosopher)

Since the beginning, a defining characteristic of Kalothia has been an ability to evolve and adapt to an ever-changing marketplace.  In 2006, in response to growing customer demand for audio visual capability, we added Audio Visual Technology Integration to our product portfolio.  In 2008, to address numerous customer requests for phone systems, we added the VoiP phone system by ShoreTel.  We chose ShoreTel’s phone system because our employees and customers alike have found it to be a brilliantly simple technology that outperforms all other competitive phone systems that are available.

Today, Kalothia has close and long-term relationships with more than 2,000 customers in the Washington Metropolitan area.   Kalothia experts utilize the latest technology to create complex Audio Visual Technology environments that meet the changing needs of our customers.  Our cabling capabilities continue to be among the best in the industry, and our ShoreTel phone systems are in high demand.  We have been fortunate to weather the “Great Recession” and have maintained profitability every quarter.  At present, demand for Kalothia services is growing exponentially and I am very optimistic and confident that the coming decade will be better than ever.

 Yours truly,

Thanos Voreas
